Read your spending before you judge it

A first breakdown is a map of what you have captured, not a report card

Look for shape, not perfection

Which category has the most logged spend? Which predictable payments are already visible? Is anything surprising enough to investigate? Those questions are useful before you have a perfect dataset.

Incomplete data deserves incomplete conclusions

If you started tracking in the middle of a month, your totals only describe what you have recorded. Treat the first weeks as observation rather than a verdict on your full financial life.

Drill into the story behind totals

A large category total is only a clue. Look at the individual entries behind it, decide whether it is a one-off or a pattern, and only then decide whether the budget needs to change.

The first breakdown is not a report card. It is a map of what you have started capturing.
